Debate our future at The Wider Horizon’s Café

1st October 2017

Published By: Sue Roberts and ACPP Committee

October 14 Morning Pre-AGM 10.30am – 1.00pm

Venue: Seminar Room 1

Resource for London 356 Holloway Rd, London N7 6PA.

HOST: Sue Roberts

The purpose of the Wider Horizon’s Café is to provide members attending the morning of the AGM with the opportunity to discuss the ACPP committee’s proposal for voting on the ACPP to become an accrediting body.  The vote takes place at the EGM in the afternoon approximate 3.50-4pm.

The Café

This informal but structured form involves small groups of people, approximately 7, sitting at a ‘café table’ over a cup of coffee etc and having an informal discussion about a question that is posed by the café host.  The output from the different tables is shared with other tables in the café by the host and people change tables a few times.  The approach has the following benefits:

  • It encourages lively debate in an informal way amongst a relatively small group of people
  • It allows individual voices to be heard and recorded
  • More reticent individuals feel more comfortable talking in a small rather than larger group
  • Swapping tables mitigates the influence of unhelpful group dynamics being established
  • It encourages a relaxed, fun atmosphere so that people can give their imagination full reign without feeling constrained by the necessary structure of more formal meetings

The café will be hosted by Sue Roberts. In discussing the question of whether ACPP should become an accrediting organisation it is important to consider the impact of changes happening to one of our key stakeholders, The Karuna Institute.  We will therefore hold our café conversations within the context of the following potential scenarios:

  • No change  - ACPP continues in its current form for the foreseeable future
  • Complete change - because The Karuna Institute no longer exists
  • Moderate change -The Karuna Institute continues as a training organisation in a modified form for the next 3-5 years

We are informed that the MA trainings will conclude in 5 years and the training component of those within 3 years.  Maura will be present to answer questions and help clarify issues arising during the sharing following each café.

Please do come along and join in a discussion that will shape the future of your organisation.

If you would like to come to this pre- AGM discussion and also to the AGM , then please could you let Garth Naudé know by Friday 6th October 2017 , so that he has an idea of numbers for the catering order (vegetarian lunch ) and also if you have any specific dietary requirements, which we will try to accommodate.

We look forward to seeing you at the Café event and the AGM , and please don't hesitate to contact either Garth ( or Anita ( if you have any questions about events on the day or any of the information above.
