An experienced therapist, I have been working with clients since 2007.
I offer one-to-one psychotherapy with adults (18 and over). Sessions are face to face, usually weekly. I offer a free introductory meeting of up to 45 minutes.
The decision to seek psychotherapy can be prompted by many things, including:
- specific events in childhood or adulthood
- general feelings of struggle, unhappiness and unease
- feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns
- difficulty creating and/or maintaining relationships
- a search for a spiritual dimension or meaning
In the Core Process model we aim to develop greater awareness of the habits, defences and ways of thinking we have developed in response to past experiences. As a baby/child there may be few choices available in terms of how to respond to trauma or difficulty. But if the defences and self-view we developed then are still in use in adulthood, we can end up stuck with beliefs and repeating behaviours that can be limiting and even destructive, preventing the forming of satisfying relationships and perpetuating self-defeating ways of being.
A mindfulness-based approach involves bringing compassion to ourselves; not always easy in a culture of high expectations and harsh judgement. In looking deeply at suffering we can change our relationship to it. Paying attention to where there is wellbeing and ease is a key part of the process of transformation.
